Tributes
Randy Taran, The Dalai Lama Foundation
On
behalf of all the participants in Project
Happiness, we were all so honored and grateful
to have had the opportunity to meet and spend
time with Nirmala Deshpande. Her caring and
commitment the legacy of Gandhi and to our
students was ever present, and it was a
privilege for all of us to be welcomed into her
world, her home and her presence. She extended
herself in so many ways including the
opportunity to meet with the President. Above
all, it is her graceful wisdom and warmth that
we will all remember.
Please send our thoughts and gratitude to her
extended family. We deeply appreciate our time
together.

My heart goes out to our dear friend Nirmala
Deshpande and her extended family. After my
Grandmother died last year, my very first
emotion was that of deep remorse and sadness,
however later i was only filled with joy that
she had been able to pass in such a peaceful and
beautiful way. In the same way i am sure that
our dear friend Nirmala Deshdande passed in the
same grace and beauty that my Grandmother did.
I will never forget what she told us in
India. above all else, the one thing that she
kept conveying to us again and again was the
importance to do what truly made you happy in
life. She loved to help people, she did so much
good and she loved doing it. she had so much
passion and so much joy in the stories that she
recounted for us about her time spent walking
with Gandhi. Nirmala Deshpande was an amazing
women. I pray that all that she has worked for
will continue to develop and grow in honor of
her dream.
